These paintings are inspired by the shapes and line of the South Downs in East Sussex, observed on daily walks during lockdown. I was particularly drawn to the interlocking pathways, trodden by people and animals over time. Also the contrast of light and dark as shadows pass over the downs, and how the weather changes the form and space.  This experience of a constantly changing, but enduring landscape resonated with me: the fluctuations in the emotional and physical experience of each day, its uncertainties and yet a reliability, a pattern of time.
